Femtosecond time-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy.

The development of femtosecond time-resolved methods for the study of gas-phase molecular dynamics is founded upon the seminal studies of Zewail and co-workers, as recognized in 1999 by the Nobel Prize in Chemistry.1 This methodology has been applied to chemical reactions ranging in complexity from bond-breaking in diatomic molecules to dynamics in larger organic and biological molecules, and h...

Attosecond time-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy of surfaces

We discuss streaking time delays for photoemission from solid model surfaces as a function of the degree of the initial-wave-function localization and including the dynamical plasmon response to the motion of the photoelectron.

Direct observation of electronic relaxation dynamics in adenine via time-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy.

We present femtosecond time-resolved photoelectron spectra of adenine in a molecular beam, recorded at pump wavelengths of 250, 267, and 277 nm. This leads to initial excitation of the bright S2(pipi*). Close to the band origin (277 nm), the lifetime is several picoseconds. Higher vibronic levels (267 and 250 nm excitation) show much shorter lifetimes of t < 50 fs, and we observe strong couplin...

Attosecond angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy.

We report experiments on the characterization of a train of attosecond pulses obtained by high-harmonic generation, using mixed-color (XUV+IR) atomic two-photon ionization and electron detection on a velocity map imaging detector. We demonstrate that the relative phase of the harmonics is encoded both in the photoelectron yield and the angular distribution as a function of XUV-IR time delay, th...
